RR 27.
Since my project is going to be on music therapy, I believe that I can include many different types of art. I would love to include possible recordings of music therapy sessions. Some of the most powerful research I have seen so far has been the videos that show the effects of this therapy. I would also like to include lots of photographs(with permission). This will show the patients participating in the therapy and the progress they may be making.

RR. 26
On pg. 515, the author says that art-based research is “an alternative form of qualitative research and representation which infuse elements, processes, and forms of the arts into scholarly work.” I really like this form of research because it is a unique way to present your information. It also involves your participants more and that is definitely something I would like to include in my project. I do not want to be the only one to get something out of my research. I think that the students that I will be testing should benefit from it as well. As I continue to think about what I would like to do, I will consider how to involve more people.

RR21.
Joan applied this paradigm by using performance to show her experience. She wanted to communicate what she learned through her fieldwork to a large group of listeners and observers. She used the performance to connect to these listeners and to appeal to their emotions. She also wanted to convey to the observers the importance of her research. By using performance, she was able to accomplish these goals.

Writing has always been very difficult for me; however, I usually do better when I set aside some time to complete it. I work very slowly so when I do a little bit at a time I am actually more successful. I plan on setting aside at least three hours during the week for my writing. My plan is to work for an hour each day. I will be more successful writing this way rather than sitting down for hours and writing. I could also set aside a certain time on these days. Each time I write, I will start and end writing at the same time.
I usually write several drafts before my papers are completed. I like to get my ideas out on paper first and then I revise. This usually makes the process less frustrating. Each time I write, I will set out a brief plan to complete. Once I complete this outline or plan then I will be done for the day. I will first set small goals for myself and over time I will increase some of these goals. My most productive part of the day is usally in the early morning when I first wake up. I usually make the mistake of writing later in the day when I am tired. In order to maximize my progress, I will start writing in the morning.
Honestly, it is very difficult for me to prioritize writing as my first thing on my list. I will have to be extremely disciplined and organized, but if I stay on task then I will make progress.

The author says on pg. 170 that “cultural performances are not only a reflection of what we are, they also shape and direct who we are and what we can become.” The value of understanding ethnogoraphy through a performance paradigm is that we can learn a lot about others and convey our meaning to them in a different way. This connects and gives others a better understanding of who we are. This makes the research more personal and understandable to the observer.

This was an interesting article. My research will have to take the student’s backgrounds and knowledge into account. I will be doing my project on music therapy and how it will help students perform in the classroom. I will be combining the idea of using the arts(music) to influence student’s learning in other subjects such as math or science. I agree when Richardson argues that “ethnography needs to be evaluated through two lenses: science and arts.”
RR 17-Lesson Plan
This is a copy of a lesson that I completed with my 4th, 5th, and 6th graders last year. We read about an event in history and then the students were able to act out the story. This really helped them remember the information that I learned. They also really enjoyed choosing their parts and working together.
